Compunetix is honored to announce that Senior Vice President and Communication Systems Division Manager Gerard Pompa was appointed by U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross as one of 18 area business leaders to serve a four-year term on the Western Pennsylvania District Export Council (WPADEC). The WPADEC is one of 61 District Export Councils (DEC) across the United States, with members representing a wide range of technology, manufacturing, and service sectors.
DEC members volunteer their time and specialized expertise to companies, particularly, small and medium-sized businesses, in their local communities to establish or increase export sales, thus promoting United States economic growth and creating new and higher-paying jobs for their communities. DEC members also support and participate in numerous trade promotion activities, as well as advocate for effective trade policy positions. In the past year the WPADEC has offered several programs on trade that included, USMCA Roundtable with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce; Protecting Your Intellectual Rights in China; U.S. Export Controls, Access Asia; and Incoterms 2020.
Gerard (Jerry) Pompa built his career in the Pittsburgh area, earning degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh before working with robotic systems at Westinghouse in the 1980s and then joining the teleconferencing product manufacturer Compunetix. Mr. Pompa refined his international leadership abilities through the development and world-wide delivery of sophisticated and scalable collaborative communications solutions. As the SVP and GM of the organization’s Communications Systems Division, Mr. Pompa oversees system design, marketing, sales, and delivery to a global portfolio of telecommunication firms, service providers and corporate clients. Compunetix’ solutions are deployed in over 35 countries.
“These new members are part of a select corps of trade experts dedicated to providing international trade leadership and guidance to the local business community and assistance to our local U.S. Commercial Service office on export business development issues for PA companies. These individuals have been appointed based on their international trade leadership, expertise, and ability to influence the local environment for exporting,” said Gary Carver, Chair of the WPADEC. “We are so pleased to have these talented individuals, join our DEC.”
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be identified by Secretary Ross and the US Department of Commerce to join the other council members in representing Western PA exporters,” added Mr. Pompa. “I look forward to assisting area companies in developing new international markets.”
