Compunetix Equipment Essential Part of Latest NOAA Launch

This weekend marked an important mission for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). On Sunday January 17, the Jason-3 satellite successfully lifted off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The launch is the latest in a series of joint US/European satellite missions that have been tracking the rate of sea level rise for 23 years. Jason-3 will also assist in more accurately forecasting the strength of tropical cyclones for NOAA’s National Weather Service.

Compunetix Federal Systems Division (FSD) equipment was essential to the success of the Jason-3 project; NASA has been an FSD customer since 1995, and NOAA since 1998. NASA Vandenberg engineers and mission coordinators utilized the MVP voice communications system for the rocket launch, while NOAA headquarters in Suitland, Maryland put their CONTEX 500Ts to work providing vehicle support, along with monitoring the health, telemetry, and safety of the Jason-3 satellite. NOAA links to the NASA network located in Goddard, Maryland and connects multiple conference loops globally while participating in the launch. This allows the coordination of everything from the mission countdown conference to satellite support conferences.
